Plaster is one of the best-suited materials to capture intricate details. Due to its many beneficial properties, it has been used for molding and casting for a long time. Some historic finds of plaster being used as a building material in Anatolia date back as far as to the Neolithic Age. At around 7,000 BC, it was used as interior decoration. The earliest molds have been found in the antiquity time period (ca. 1,000 BC).
Near the end of the 17th century, the first cast collections of antique sculptures emerged. They were available mostly to art students and people interested in the fine arts. Most collections have significantly grown over time and have an eventful history. Today they rise in popularity – the casts within are records of our past, after all.
